Weekly Update (15.07.22)

What an exciting week we have had this week exploring all things STEAM! Our topic has been flight and the children have had great fun launching rockets, completing the egg drop challenge as well as making gliders. They have thought carefully about the forces in action when an object takes flight and have also enjoyed researching Amelia Earhart. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and imagination come to life and to have so many guest speakers in to talk to the children and share their passions. Thank you Maple Class for an excellent last full week of term!

Weekly Update (08.07.22)

We were so lucky this week to watch the wonderful performances from the Rock Steady bands. It was clear to see how much hard work and effort they have put in and they were incredible to watch. Well done! In maths the Year 4's have been exploring the different types of triangle and calculating angles whereas the Year 3's have been describing the properties of 2d and 3d shape. In English we have been role playing a press conference as well as writing direct and reported speech. Well done Maple! 

Weekly Update (01.07.22)

 In our Design and Technology lesson this week we have started to design our own juggling balls thinking carefully about the colour, shape, function and filling of the balls. In maths we have started recapping our fraction knowledge. Today we were focusing on counting in fractions using different representations and mixed numbers. In English we have started writing our stories based on our text 'The Man who Walked Between the Towers'. I look forward to reading their final versions next week. The children also enjoyed class swap day on Thursday and were pleased to meet their new teachers. Well done Maple! 

Weekly Update (24.06.22)

What an exciting week it has been this week! The Year 4's had an excellent time on their residential and despite being a little tired from the lack of sleep (!!), were in great spirits today and enjoyed talking about what they had been up to. The children who went on the museum trip were excellent ambassadors for our school. They behaved beautifully and contributed well to all of the discussions. Today we have been celebrating Armed Forces week with talks from special visitors, using the COJO's equipment and writing Blueys to friends or relatives on deployment.

Weekly Update (17.06.22)

 In Maths this week we have been revising the short formal method of division using our knowledge of times tables to support us. In English we have been planning our story based on The Man Who Walked Between The Towers, thinking carefully about what challenge our character is embarking on and what problems they will need to overcome in order to be successful.  Well done Maple Class,  you have worked incredibly hard this week, even in the heat! 

Weekly Update (10.06.22)

We have had a great first week back in Maple Class with the Year 4'starting their swimming lessons and the Year 3's having their violin lessons. In Maths this week we have been using our knowledge of adding and subtracting to solve problems. The children have been using the column method to record their answers and make any necessary exchanges. In English we have started our new text, The Man Who Walked Between The Towers, by Mordicai Gerstein.  The children have enjoyed using drama to act out the story and today were working on developing our vocabulary using exciting words form the text. Well done Maple Class!

Weekly Update (27.05.22)

A very big thank you to all of you who joined us for our Jubilee celebrations today. The children had a wonderful time eating cake (so much cake!!), waving their flags and singing the National Anthem. In Maths this week we have been adding and subtracting with money using different representations to show our answers. We have been finding the difference between amounts as well as finding change. In English we have finished writing our letters to Her Majesty The Queen using our neatest handwriting and including formal language. The children have all worked so hard on this so I think Her Majesty will be delighted to receive them. Who knows, we may even get a reply! Well done Maple Class, have a wonderful half term break- you deserve it! 

Weekly Update (20.05.22)

In Computing this week we have been programming sprites using scratch. The children have had great fun and managed to create some very imaginative designs.

In Maths we have been learning about money- finding amounts, converting from pence into pounds and pence and solving problems with a focus on explaining our answers clearly. We have also started 'Sticky Maths!' See if your child can explain what it is!  

In English we have completed our non-chronological reports about the Circus and we have started researching Queen Elizabeth II in preparation of writing her a letter. Fingers crossed we will get a reply!

Weekly Update (13.05.22)

In Maple this week we have continued to explore Pointillism in our Art sessions. We have sketched an outline of a circus themed picture ready to paint using the Pointillism technique next week. In Maths this week the Year 4's have been learning about decimals- how to write them, order them and compare them. The children have been working especially hard at explaining their reasoning when solving problems. In Year 3 the children have been learning about capacity, also focusing on solving problems and explaining their answers.

In English we have been writing our own non-chronological reports about the Circus. The children have used their knowledge of headings, conjunctions and rhetorical questions to make the reports informative and engaging.

Weekly Update (06.05.22)

Wow! What an exciting week we have had this week! Well done to all of the Year 4's who took part in Young Voices. Mrs Hill said what excellent role models you were and how much fun you all had. Fantastic! Maple class have also been perfecting their Circus Skills this week during a Circus workshop. They mesmerised parents this afternoon with their plate spinning, diablo stunts and juggling. Well done! 

In Maths we have been working on our times table recall- how quickly can you recall your 6 times tables? In English we have been identifying the features of a non-chronological report in preparation of writing our own next week. 

Well done Maple Class, you have worked really hard! 

Weekly Update (29.04.22)

 We have had a super week back this week, showing Mrs Hill all of our excellent learning. In Maths we have been learning to Tell the Time on 12 hour and 24 hour clocks and converting analogue times to digital and vice versa. Our English has followed the theme of our new topic, The Travelling Circus, and we have been enjoying getting into role and interviewing for a position in the 'Magical Maple Circus'- watch this space!! Well done Maple Class- you've worked very hard.

Weekly Update (08.04.22)

This week we have been busy writing our own legends during our English sessions. The children have been thinking carefully about applying all of the skills we have learnt in this unit and they have all done remarkably well. It has been a pleasure to read all of their creations. In Maths we have started learning about decimals and how to write them on a place value grid. We hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing Easter holiday and we cannot wait to see you all in two weeks time ready for some more exciting learning! Well done Maple Class! 

Weekly Update (01.04.22)

This week we were treated to watching the Rock Steady children perform in the hall with their bands! They were all incredible to watch and made for an entertaining afternoon. A big well done to all involved. Year 4 were also lucky enough to participate in a tri golf session hosted by the coaches at the Community College. In English this week we have been learning about paragraphs thinking about when and why we use them and in Maths we have been learning about fractions of amounts. Well done Maple Class :) 

Weekly Update (25.03.22)

This week in computing, we have been learning to change the composition of images which we have had great fun with! In English this week we have been learning about the features of Legends in preparation for writing our own. In Maths we have moved onto adding and subtracting fractions in Year 4 and comparing and ordering fractions in Year 3. Excellent learning all round! Well done Maple Class :) 

Weekly Update (18.03.22)

What a lovely week we've had in Maple class this week, especially today dressing up for Comic Relief and playing our 'having a laugh' quiz. In English this week we have been learning the Legend of Sir Lancelot, mapping out the story and hot seating Sir Lancelot himself! In Maths we have continued to learn about fractions- counting, adding and exploring improper fractions and mixed numbers.  So much hard work done by you all- well done Maple! 

Weekly Update (11.03.22)

It was lovely to see so many children dressed in yellow and blue today and we thank you for all of your donations left in school for Ukraine. In English this week we have been planning and writing our own diary entries based on our book, 'The Princess in a Tree.' In Maths we have been learning all about fractions! Counting in fractions and finding equivalence. Well done Maple, some super learning! 

Weekly Update (04.03.22)

Wow! What an exciting first week back! We have enjoyed celebrating World Book Day this week through Books at Bedtime and dressing up as our favourite character on Thursday- it was lovely to speak to the children about their favourite stories and share lots together. In English this week we have been looking at the features of a diary in preparation of writing our own. In Maths we have been learning about fractions, exploring the part-whole relationship and different representations. A great first week back- well done Maple! 

Weekly Update (18.02.22)

In English this week we have been exploring our new text, 'The Princess who Hid in a Tree' thinking carefully about retelling the story in our own words. In Maths we have been recapping all of the skills we have learnt this term, discussing the areas we are feeling confident in as well as the areas we would like some more support with. In Gymnastics, the children were able to perform their routines to other children in the class. We wish you all a safe, restful half term and look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 1st March. 

Weekly Update (11.02.22)

In English this week we have been writing our own instructions linked to our Invaders and Settlers topic. The children have been expert editors too, reading texts to improve using a checklist. In Maths we have been calculating perimeter of shapes using our knowledge of the properties of shapes to help us. In Religious Education, the children have been learning about Shabbat and discussing the Big Question- Is a Jewish Child Free to Choose How to Live? The children of Maple class have worked incredibly hard this week and should be proud of their achievements. 

Weekly Update (04.02.22)

Maple have had a great week this week with the Year 3 children visiting the Community College for a Multi Skills afternoon. In English this week we have been learning how to give clear instructions using imperative verbs and adverbials of place. The children enjoyed instructing their partners to draw pictures. In Maths we have continued our learning about length. The children have been adding and subtracting length and used their knowledge of this to solve problems. We also had some of the children become class teacher, thinking carefully about how to explain their reasoning to others. Well done Maple class, you have worked really hard! 

Weekly Update (28.01.22)

In English this week we have been exploring the features of instruction writing. We have also been learning new topic words and using them in our writing. In  Maths we have been learning about length. The children have been measuring in cm and mm and finding equivalent lengths of m and km, cm and m. I wonder if they can measure anything at home? Well done Maple class, you have worked really hard! 

Weekly Update (21.01.22)

This week the children have continued to enjoy their P.E sessions and have been exploring tessellation in Art. In English we have been using all of our new vocabulary to write a description of a setting. We have also been exploring different ways to start our sentences. The children are now experts at using fronted adverbials! In Maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of short division. They have all shown great progression. Our Gold Award this week goes to Troy for his excellent explanations in Science. Well done!  

Weekly Update (14.01.22)

This week the children have enjoyed their first sessions with our new P.E coach which they seem to have thoroughly enjoyed! In English we have continued to explore the language in our text, ‘How to be a Viking’ by Cressida Cowell. The children have identified new vocabulary to use in their writing as well as the use of onomatopoeia for effect. In Maths we have been practicing our times table recall (they are getting speedy!) and have started to look at how to divide using a formal written method. Well done Maple class! 

Weekly Update (07.01.22)

Happy New Year and welcome back to Maple Class. The children have settled back into lessons brilliantly and it has been lovely to see them all back in class. This week in English we have started to explore our new text, ‘How to be a Viking’ by Cressida Cowell. We have been retelling the story and using our drama skills to act it out. In Maths we have been using the expanded method as a formal written method for multiplication. Maple class were excellent ambassadors of CPS during our trip to the theatre this week. We all enjoyed watching Robin Hood and interacting with the performance with some rather excitable shouting of ‘he’s behind you!’  – a great trip out!
